Current Opportunities – Nutmeg Summer Series 2017

ASST. COMPANY/HOUSE MGR., CONCESSIONS MGR. – Connecticut Repertory Theatre, professional performance arm of University of Connecticut’s Department of Dramatic Arts, seeks Asst. Company/House Manager and Concessions Manager for our summer season consisting of two musicals and a play. Daytime, evening, and weekend availability required. Company management and/or front of house experience is preferred. Season: Mid-May to late July. Contracts are 7-10 weeks, depending on position. Salaries: Competitive, subsidized housing available.  All performances will be in the Harriet S. AUDIO ENGINEER/ MIXER – The critically-acclaimed Connecticut Repertory Theatre, located on the University of Connecticut’s main campus in Storrs, CT, is seeking an Audio Engineer/ Mixer for its 2017 Nutmeg Summer Season.  Employment will start May 15 and end on July 17. Housing will be provided in addition to a competitive bi-weekly salary (based on experience).  The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years theatrical sound engineering experience including the ability to hang and rig speakers, will be proficient in the use of a Yamaha M7CL-48 digital board or equivalent, and will have knowledge of QLab Playback Software. CUTTER/ DRAPER – The critically acclaimed Connecticut Repertory Theatre, located on the University of Connecticut’s main campus in Storrs, CT, is seeking energetic, collaborative, highly organized and skilled Cutter/Draper with experience in draping and patterning historical and modern costumes and the ability to guide shop staff in the quality completion of these garments in a short build timeline.  Applicant should have knowledge of Equity rules regarding costumes as well as expertise in conducting costume fittings and making smart and efficient decisions regarding alterations.  Position oversees shop with 1 First Hand and 2 Stitchers, often of varying skill levels.  Some educating and mentoring is to be expected.  Applicant should possess a strong working knowledge of industrial sewing machines and other professional costume shop tools and supplies.  Competitive bi-weekly salary with free housing available.  All performances will be in the Harriet S. Positions available: Assistant Technical Director, Master Carpenter, Carpenters, Scenic Charge, Scenic Artist, Props Artisan, Electricians/Follow Spot Operators, First Hand, Cutter/Draper, Wardrobe Mistress, Stitchers, A1 Audio Engineer/Mixer, A2 Audio Technician/ Monitor mixer, and Box Office support. SCENIC CARPENTER – The critically-acclaimed Connecticut Repertory Theatre, located on the University of Connecticut’s main campus in Storrs, CT, is seeking 2 to 3 Scenic Carpenters for its 2017 Nutmeg Summer Season consisting of two musicals and one play.  Competitive bi-weekly salary with free housing available.  The successful candidates will have a working knowledge of traditional theatrical scene construction; must be able to read technical drafting; self-motivated; familiar with typical shop tools and equipment; and work well with others.  All performances will be in the Harriet S. SCENIC CHARGE ARTIST – The critically-acclaimed Connecticut Repertory Theatre, located on the University of Connecticut’s main campus in Storrs, CT, is seeking a Scenic Charge Artist for its 2017 Nutmeg Summer Season.  Competitive bi-weekly salary with free housing available.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of scenic painting techniques and surface treatments, including but not limited to translucencies, carving, texturing, ageing, distressing, marbling, and wood graining.
  • Experience in a range of art forms, including lettering and sign work, sculpturing, modeling, portraits, and murals.
  • Ability to independently translate designer’s renderings, notes, and color elevations into meaningful samples and full scale painted scenery.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and develop new techniques.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, but also as part of a team, and multi-task.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality control.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Candidate must have a current, valid driver’s license, and the ability to drive company vans.

WARDROBE SUPERVISOR – The critically acclaimed Connecticut Repertory Theatre, located on the University of Connecticut’s main campus in Storrs, CT, is seeking energetic, collaborative, highly organized and skilled Wardrobe Supervisor for position in a professional Equity, fast paced summer production season.  A caring and supportive personality is essential.   Applicant should possess excellent communication skills, experience in plotting a show and creating actor/dresser paperwork and managing a crew of interns.  Some educating and mentoring is to be expected.  Applicant should also have a thorough knowledge of garment care, the use of industrial sewing machines, irons and steamers, and basic wig maintenance.   Experience in shoe repair and craftwork is beneficial.  Competitive bi-weekly salary with free housing available.  All performances will be in the Harriet S. PATRON SERVICES INTERN – Connecticut Repertory Theatre, the professional performance arm of the University of Connecticut’s Department of Dramatic Arts, seeks a box office intern for our summer season consisting of two musicals and a play.  The intern will work afternoons in the box office and will work at the shows in the evenings and on weekends.  Season dates: Late May to mid-July.
