Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

The Connecticut Repertory Theatre is committed to sustaining an environment that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. We have adopted a number of strategies to support this commitment, and we continue to examine our policies and practices. We challenge our own assumptions about what progress means as we focus on practices and programming that maintain the type of community we want to be a part of.  We welcome continued accountability.

Below are some of the initial ways we are engaged in this work:

-Working consciously to create a season of plays that speaks to the diversity of narratives, cultures, ethnicities, and held identities.

-Engaging in intentional hiring practices for directors, Equity actors, and other guest artists, in order to expand the presence of LGBTQ+ and BIPOC artists in our community.

-Opening each CRT rehearsal process with a conversation about what it means to be a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community.

-Adjusting our play consideration process to include more artists who are under-published and under-produced, often due to the ingrained racism in American theatre.

-Expanding accessibility to the Connecticut Repertory Theatre through ASL interpreted performances and Sensory Friendly performances.
